A powerful iron - 1800 watts (2010-07-16) : 5/5
I've been ironing for over 45 years and the past 20 years I've used Rowenta irons. They are great irons but they don't seem to last long. I take great care and empty them after every use but they still stop working after about 18 months-typically, they start spitting badly and fail to even heat up. At least, that is my experience with Rowenta. I bet I have purchased 10-15 Rowenta irons in the past 20 years. Even so, I still like the Rowenta because of the watts and excellent steam system. I purchased Sharp irons but they too don't last. I keep two irons-one for back-up in case the first fails. I've just had this iron for less than a week however, from this short time, I do love it. The reservoir holds a lot of water so you don't have to keep refilling it. This iron, DW9080, is powerful, 1800 watts which is very important. The more powerful the iron, the easier the ironing. This iron is easy to fill and heats up quickly. Since it has over 400 steam vents, it really puts out a lot of steam plus you have a couple of options to add more steam with the "autosteam vent", the "spray button" and burst of the "steam button". If you iron a lot and really care that your clothes look nice then I would recommend this iron, however, keep in mind that it may not last. But, on the other hand, maybe the problems that have plagued Rowenta have been addressed and it's more durable.
Broke within first week (2010-07-15) : 1/5
This iron is an absolute piece of garbage (like every other Rowenta iron I have ever owned). The temperature knob broke within one week of use. After two and a half weeks of use, the steam button no longer worked, rendering the iron absolutely useless. Please don't waste your money on this iron. If you are going to buy Rowenta, buy a less expensive iron, as whatever you buy will not last you very long.
Wow! What an Iron! (2010-07-09) : 5/5
In June 2010, I received this Rowenta Steamium Model DW9080 as a free replacement for a Rowenta Advancer DZ9080 whose heater unit went out while still under warranty.
This new Steamium model is much easier to manuever with its ergonomic handle and controls. That's the way I like it! It still has the great sole plate with all the little holes for delivering lots of steam. The control dial is much easier and ergonomic. I can empty the water out of the chamber much more easily when I'm done ironing. The precision tip teamed with the 360 degree cord rotation is perfect for ironing between buttons and tight corners.
This iron is a big improvement over the clutzy, cumbersome DZ9080 Advancer. The water in the reservoir lasts longer. This is a buy recommendation.
Power Steam extrodinaire (2010-07-03) : 4/5
This model is the best iron on the current market and delivers more steam than any other. It's slightly heavier weight is another feature I like for large cotton items such as tablecloths. However, after about 1 year it began to leak from the bottom plate. The cost to send for repair did not justify itself. Looked at other irons and still decided to buy this model again since other than this problem it is the best I have ever used.
Rowenta Iron the only way to go (2010-06-25) : 5/5
I love this iron. It tru.ly makes my ironing a breeze. The steam is so forceful when it comes out that it is like having a professional pressing machine.
